It is installed on the user's computer and does all of its work there: capture, editing, and encoding are local, no footage is uploaded to any server, and there is no account, sign-up, or subscription. Choose **More info → Run anyway**. - **Permissions**: none required beyond a normal install. - **Updates**: full in-app auto-update. Splitting it into a separate `brew tap` followed by `brew install mashhad` leaves the tap present but untrusted, and the install is then refused with "Refusing to load cask … from untrusted tap". **Manual `.dmg` install (fallback):** separate builds are published for Apple Silicon (`Mashhad-arm64.dmg`) and Intel (`Mashhad-x64.dmg`). The build carries no Apple Developer signature, so a directly downloaded `.dmg` is quarantined by Gatekeeper. Move the app to `/Applications`, then run this **before the first launch**: ``` xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Mashhad.app ``` Ordering matters on macOS 15 and later. An unsigned, quarantined app that is double-clicked first is blocked and moved straight to the Trash with a "Malware Blocked and Moved to Trash" message, and there is no "open anyway" escape hatch left — the app has to be restored from the Trash and the command run then. Installing via Homebrew avoids all of this, because the cask strips the quarantine flag automatically. Note that the bundle on disk is named `Mashhad.app`; only its display name is مشهد, so the Arabic name will not match a filesystem path. **Updates on macOS**: an in-app banner announces the new version, but it cannot self-install — Squirrel.Mac refuses to apply unsigned updates. Update with `brew upgrade mashhad` or by downloading the new `.dmg`. ### Linux - **AppImage**: `Mashhad.AppImage`. Mark it executable (`chmod +x`) and run it. Supports in-app auto-update when run as a real AppImage. - **Debian / Ubuntu**: `Mashhad.deb`, installed with `sudo apt install ./Mashhad.deb`. No in-app updater — install the newer package to update. - **Display server**: the global cursor hook that powers the smooth zoom needs an **X11** session. Under Wayland, cursor tracking may not work, though screen recording itself still does. --- ## Permissions ### macOS macOS gates capture at the OS level. Builds released under the earlier **SmoothScreenRecorder** name used a folder of that name; the app renames it on first launch so older recordings carry over. In parallel, a native global input hook logs every cursor move and click to the sidecar JSON, normalised to 0–1 of the recorded display. 2. **Edit** — the studio renders a live preview on a canvas, computing a `{scale, center}` transform per frame with eased ramps and a low-pass-smoothed cursor path, so the pan and zoom are smooth rather than jittery. The webcam bubble, click ripples, and transitions are composited on the same canvas. 3. **Export** — the canvas animation is recorded to an intermediate video, then ffmpeg muxes it with the original microphone audio (applying the RNNoise cleanup chain and mixing in click sounds) and encodes to the chosen format. Built with Electron; ffmpeg, the RNNoise models, the global input hook, and the background-blur model are all bundled — no system ffmpeg or extra downloads are needed. --- ## Known limitations - Cursor-following zoom and click effects require a **full-screen** recording. Restore the app from the Trash, run `xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Mashhad.app`, then open it. Installing via Homebrew avoids this entirely. **No screens or windows are listed.** Use the refresh control (↻ تحديث).
